Our Story …

1 in 3 Australian men and 1 in 4 Australian women will be diagnosed by cancer before the age of 75.

Cancer does not discriminate, it affects people of all ages.

But you already knew that.

Maybe you weren't aware of the exact statistic, but either your own experience, or that of a friend or family member comes to mind, right? Because cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Australia. And we can surely say we have also witnessed the deep effects of cancer through a family member of our own. Our brother and son Cameron...

Cameron was diagnosed with Testicular cancer in his right testicle 3 years ago. This rocked him, our family and friends. He was 20 years old. Fortunately the team at Royal Perth removed his testicle within days of the diagnosis.

Cameron's challenge did not end there. He then had to endure 3 months of chemotherapy. The chemo really took its toll on Cam, not only physically but also mentally.

Now, 3 years down the track, Cameron was finally recouping and getting his life back on track. This is when he felt the same pain in his left testicle. Unfortunately, after numerous tests, he had his second testicle removed as it was also cancerous, not related to the first. Fortunately, he did not have to endure chemotherapy this time however, it was of course even more challenging for him, obviously due to losing another important part of himself.

Cameron is our hero. We take this challenge on to show him how proud we are of him and to let him know how amazing and brave he is. His mental endurance and grace of person has shone through so strongly.

He has shared his story with others and we would like to continue to share it in hope to make a difference for anyone going through this enduring challenge. We want to raise as much as we can for the Cancer Council so that they can continue to provide the support to the beautiful needing their help.

We are lucky enough to be able to still stand by Cam today; have a laugh and learn to appreciate the little things, even despite the loss of a couple brave soldiers!

But we know that not everyone is that fortunate. So we are driving for you, we are driving for your family, we are driving for your friends and we are driving to represent both the survivors and those taken from us.

Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 9th year. Part of the participation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $4,000 but most teams raise well above this amount as you can see with the $1,400,000 target.

These funds go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity.

The fundraising is the hard part, but we know that you will all have a reason to get involved and help us help the cause. Our journey will be documented and very interactive so you can take part in giving our shitbox a bit of love.

So please follow our adventure on this page and our facebook page, get involved, spread the word and remember that any donation is a good one!

The survival rate for many types of cancer has increased by more than 20 per cent in the past three decades due to treatment improvements and new interventions brought about by research.

So let's keep the research going!

Thanks guys

- Rose and Tash

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

  • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
  • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
  • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
