Debra Clare & Carolyn Thomson will br taking part in the cancer-research fundraiser "ShitBox Rally " from Brisbane to Darwin in may 2018We will make up Team "Giddy Up With a car done up with a horse theme in honour of Carolyn's beloved daughter Rihanna who passed away after a horse riding fall. This rally focuses on raising money for cancer research This cause is dear to our hearts as in the last three years I've lost family members from cancer -My uncle passed away from lung cancer &my dad and Prostate cancerMy Mum has been travelling to Coffs Harbour for the past two years every three weeks having a treatment called Keytruda (Pembrolizumab ) it was a grade five Myeloma that started in her arm.Carolyn also has family members going through cancer and has lost family members from cancer as well.As well all know there are many families out there that have watched a loved one fight cancer, suffer or even pass away from this horrible disease. We are participating in this rally for cancer research, but we are also doing this in honour of Riharna who became an organ donor in doing this we hope to get the message out there of the importance of cancer research and Organ Donation as Rihanna's organs saved up to eight lives.we could not be prouder of our Rihanna as we know she lost her life doing what she loved and that was horse riding. Its something no family wants to go through Rihanna was along-time lover of horse riding Her passion was show jumping & all Equestrian events.Rihanna was employed as a Stable Forman/ Strapper Track worker rider for Capital Racing Stables, which lead her to be named "NSW Strapper of the year "2017" for her dedication.Thats Why we have Called our team "Giddy UP'
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,000, over a 7 day across Australia endeavour to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally."
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
Over $11.8 million has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
