Welcome to the official fundraising page for Meine Blitzen Benz – entrants in the Cancer Councils upcoming 2018 Shitbox Rally. It’s not a race but a challenge, for cars costing less than $1000 – to travel some 4000km from Brisbane to Darwin… through the unforgiving Australian outback… in 7 days… in shitboxes… all 220 of them!
And the best part – it raises much needed funds for the cancer research, with over $1.6 million raised for the 2017 event alone. Our 2018 team "Meine Blitzen Benz" comes from the salvaged remains of "Team S.O.S", with Mark Weckert teaming up with Kelvin Todd - half of "Tasmania is Kinda Cool", both 2017 Shitbox Rally participants.
Our shitbox for the rally will be a classy 1985 Mercedes Benz 280E… but surely a classic Mercedes Benz, the pinnacle of fine German engineering, can’t be worth less than $1000?! Actually it can, as it was purchased from the auction at the end of the 2017 Adelaide to Cairns Shitbox Rally – for the measly sum of $80! It has already survived 2 brutal rallies as part of team “My 80s Benz” (2017) and “Digging the Dream” (2016). It made the return journey back to South Australia leaving a trail of oil and is now getting some much needed TLC in preparation for another Shitbox Rally assault (nae blitz ;-)
We need to raise a minimum of $4,000 for the Cancer Council before we can depart on our adventure but will be hoping to raise double that. Please help us by donating whatever you can for the cause. And the more people that know about Shitbox Rally, the greater the impact, so please spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family!Stay tuned for updates and announcements on our special fundraising events.Das ist gut ja!
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
